Me at work . . .

I have been obsessed with homes and their design and decoration it seems forever.  I graduated from East Carolina University in 1988 with a B.A. in Arts Management.  Realizing then how important it is to study what you love, my plan to get a business degree swiftly changed after that first statistics class.   But then, the world of business did call and paid better than the world of art, so there I stayed for 10 years or so.  Good thing, too, because watching “The Office” wouldn’t be quite the same now had I not been there myself.

Jump to the early 2000’s when the real estate market was, shall we say, more active.  I began helping homeowners and realtors with staging, paint color selection and organization solutions.  I enjoyed the process of helping people get one step closer to a sale by working with them to create a look that would appeal to more buyers.  But packing away knick-knacks was part of that job description and didn’t hold my interest forever.  So in 2005 after a three-year stint of being a jewelry designer, I got serious about interior design. I enrolled in a great Interior Design program at CPCC which got me super-energized, though I’ve really been “studying” for this career my whole life. Taking that first step into the “design world” coincided with actual work coming my way and I am not looking back.  My taste tends toward the modern (as in design classics of the mid-century and now), but I have great appreciation for all kinds of styles and really love to help clients realize their own best taste.  It’s a good day when it truly becomes a collaborative process and the end result makes everyone smile.
